The PMC-SCC04-IO module is a Quad Channel serial communication controller featuring 64-byte FIFOs per line, based on the XR17D154 chip. It supports auto-configuration registers for plug-and-play installation and provides four asynchronous ports capable of up to 6.125 MBps. Each UART includes a 16C550-compatible set of configuration registers, 64-byte transmit and receive FIFOs with programmable trigger levels and counters, automatic hardware and software flow control, IrDA encoder/decoder, 8 multi-purpose I/Os, and a 16-bit general-purpose timer/counter. The module offers high input impedance with ESD protection and logic-selectable 120-ohm termination resistors for each channel. Additionally, it provides 16 RS-422 I/O lines that are individually programmable as input or output, with software-programmable termination resistors
